Cell Tuning to Morphogenetic Fields
Introduction
I have discussed the following articles previously on some Catholic lists before. I have put them as full write-ups in webpage format for free public information giving and sharing in order to open the eyes and mind of people to what could be happening (ie. "Signs of the Times") around us and HOW they could be happening. Thus, we may have an explanation on how to go about countering the bad influences from this world with the good influences from God's teachings through our Church, as they all affect our lives, culture, bodies, behaviors, mind, etc. These writeups will continually be revised and improved for them to better make sense and so more concrete information can be presented for our learning. - 24 September 1997

Formative Causation and Morphogenesis
How does a thing get its form? How do nonliving things, such as rocks or crystal "know" to become rocks or crystals when they do not have DNA? How do living things get their form? How does one cell matures into a leaf cell and another cell into a stalk cell, when both belong to the same plant and have identical DNA? How is it that one cell from a human being "knows" to develop into a skin cell while another cell into a liver cell when the DNA is the same for both cells?
Back to the list
Notice that in the above, the physical formation of both living and nonliving things is discussed. However, given such questions, what they are does not really tell how they become like so. It does not say how they remember to develop into such, ie. a DNA from a plant remembering to become a leaf cell rather than a stalk cell of the same plant. The atoms or DNA only show the "what" or makeup of something but neither can show how they become the actual form of something.
Consider again how one cell of the same DNA "knows" to become a skin cell while another a liver cell. What "forces" them to "remember" to do that? They may have the atomic or DNA data but what forces them to decide which part to become - become a leaf part or become a stalk part instead?; or become a skin part rather than a liver part? Again we are talking about the same DNA for both parts.
Given the DNA and given the good observation and inquiries as to how a cell with the same exact DNA "decides" and "remembers" to become a skin cell rather than a liver cell, there can only be a distinct and separate invisible force which controls such decision and it is not contained or limited within the atom or the DNA. Also, besides just "form", there are the issues of development and behaviors which are remembered as well, ie. how does a stomach remember to behave as all stomachs do or how does a heart remember to behave as all hearts do?
Thus, it is most probable that there exists this "force", ie. the mind, which "reminds" a cell to develop into something which it originally was even though only the same DNA data exist for it to develop and come from.
According to Rupert Sheldrake, a plant physiologist from England, the mind is nonlocal as it is neither confined to the brain (physical matter) nor produced by it, although it may act through the brain, such as electricity acts through a wire without being generated by the wire itself. The mind is nonlocal in both space and time; that it is not confined to the here-and-now; that it is nonmaterial and nonenergetic, implying that its effect is not diminished by spatial separation. Thus, this definition of the mind has implications of immortality (ie. the soul).
The other important implication about having this "outside force" such as the mind, telling the DNA to become this or that part, or behave as how others of the same kind behave, is that this "force" can change across time and space, and the rest of the "living thing" having the same or similar DNA (ie. same species) will likewise be affected and follow suit by such influence by this force.
Consider these examples and observations on how development of human and other living things' behaviors were promulgated:
- There was a colony of macaque monkeys being observed in 1952 in the Koshima island off the Japanese coast. For better observations, the primatogists lured the monkeys to come near with raw sweet potatoes. It did not work at first until one female monkey learned that washing the potatoes clean of grits made them more palatable. This young female monkey taught her mother and the other youngs. By 1958, all the young monkeys were washing potatoes and the female monkey who discovered this further learned that washing in salted water added flavors. Then this became common knowledge to the whole colony. This trick did not just remain within this colony. All of a sudden, other isolated macaque colonies in other neighbouring islands "learned" the trick as if by telepathy because nobody directly taught them at all.
- In Britain in 1952 some dairies began delivering milk in foil-capped bottles. Some blue tits learned how to peck through the cap to get at the milk. Abruptly, this behavior exploded throughout the European blue tit population - a phenomenon inexplicable by one to one imitation alone.
- A variant of the phenomenon is seen in human sporting prowess. After many failures, Mount Everest was first climbed in 1953 by a vast military-scale expedition. Of twenty-five further successful expedition between 1953 and 1980, none involved less than a month and all used oxygen to reach the top. But in 1980, Austrian Reinhold Messner climbed Everest solo without oxygen, in just three days. Since then similar rapid solo climbs without oxygen have become almost commonplace. The once impossible becomes commonplace.
- The "four-minute-mile" is another example. Once broken by Roger Banniste in 1954, the imagined barrier lost its power to deter not only the body but the (subjected) mind. Within days of his feat it was duplicated.
- So too the tendency for scientific discoveries long sought after, to be made simultaneously by more than one group or individual; as with the discovery of the planet Neptune in 1846 by Leverrier and Adams.
Now, if these behaviors or tendencies spred explosively, overcoming the barriers of space and time, there can explain how corruption and sinful behaviors have promulgated around the world as well (ie. homosexual tendencies and behaviors, feministic attitudes, etc., see next article).
Biologist Rupert Sheldrake's theory of formative causation may help to explain the phenomenon. He postulates an information signal resonating through what he calls morphogenetic (or "form") fields (from the Greek "morphe", form, and "genesis", coming-into-being) as responsible for the instantaneous transmission of behaviors, which even can go deep into the genetic makeup itself. Though unrecognized by orthodox or mechanistic physics, these fields, claims Sheldrake, are as real as magnetic or gravitational fields and are responsible for transmitting forms and behaviors through repetition and across space and time. Thus, a developing embryo "tunes in" to the form of past members of the same species through a process which Sheldrake calls morphic resonance. So too the fields organizing an animal's nervous system and activities derive from the instinctive "memory bank" or "pooled memory" of past members of that species. Thus, he claims when a group of animals has learned a new behavior-pattern, other animals of the same species all over the world should learn the same behavior more easily (ie. how sin and corruption spread across the world).
The morphogenetic fields of all systems exert their influence on subsequent systems by this morphic resonance process. Thus, in the example of the plant DNA, the reason a plant cell becomes a leaf cell and not a root cell is because it tunes in, as it were, through morphic resonance (thus, it is reminded) with the morphogenetic fields of all previous leaves of the same kind. This process occurs for all systems, wherever they may be found in nature.
Other than influencing the "form" (genetic physical makeup), even emotions and thoughts may be affected by these fields, inasmuch as our feelings are affected by our internal chemistry. This is one reason why the fields are potentially so pervasive, and why we can jump from atoms to thoughts in discussing their activities. In fact, there is no "jump" at all, once we see how the fields are thought to work - where their effects begin and where they end.
But there really is no "end" to the expression of these fields. For once any individual person or any other living thing is affected by them, they in turn affect the fields themselves by cumulatively adding to them (ie. the young monkey learning to wash the sweet potatoes in salt water giving them more flavor; learning homosexual behaviors; learning feminism, etc., which gets passed on to other colonies or other generations). All things, thoughts and behaviors are plowed back into the great forward sweep of morphogenetic fields. This is in stark contrast to the view that dominates current science which says that an organism's influence in the world is terminated when it dies (ie. Mother Teresa's legacy still remains with us, influencing us). According to the hypothesis of formative causation, there is an endless absorption into the Great Pool of Being, from which one is eternally brought forth thereafter, manifesting as influences on the inner and outer patterns of things newly or subsequently born.
With Sheldrake's formative causation, the other reason why a skin cell remembers to become a skin cell or why a brain cell remembers to become a brain; or a leaf cell to become a leaf, is because they are confined (but not restricted) to the resonance of the same morphogenetic field of their own kind. So given the data (ie. DNA), in addition to it, is the "invisible force", the morphogenetic fields that have been set up by similarly developing parts in the past - the leaf links in morphic resonance with other leaves and so with the same DNA makeup, it becomes a leaf rather than the stalk of the same plant. Thus, the human heart DNA tunes in to the morphic field of the heart that is why it also forms into a human heart rather than the stomach, given the same DNA in both.
In these instances, the reasoning overlooking the fact that external forces may be at work - consciousness and morphogenetic fields - these instances consistently show that there are other than the brain or the DNA contributing to the "decision" on the actual formation or development of living things and each of their many different parts. There are other factors not present in the DNA that provides for the development of each of the different parts of living things even though they all have the same DNA. This is what the morphogenetic field is for. As it is, the DNA, by providing the code for the sequence of amino acids, enables the cell to make particular proteins. That is all the DNA can do. The problem with morphogenesis is not just the question of getting the right proteins in the right cells at the right time. Given those proteins, it is how the cells organize themselves into particular forms; and how those are shaped into organisms of particular forms. DNA helps to understand how you get the proteins which provide, as it were, the bricks and the mortar with which the organism is built, but it does not explain how these bricks and mortar assemble into particular patterns and shapes. This "how" which can not be explained by DNA, and is not present in DNA, is what morphogenetic fields can explain.
Is morphic resonance some form of telephathy? Maybe or maybe not. Perhaps the difference is simply semantics or how each are placed and utilized in different perspectives. But their "goals" are similar in that with telepathy, one signals to another a specific behavior or thought which the other tunes into and acquires. Morphic resonance does something similar as it observes and explains how a colony of monkeys in an isolated area learned a trick which got promulgated to another colony in separated place without any direct instruction or contact with the pioneering colony; or how subsequent generations of the same species acquire the same trick no matter where they are in the world. Just as how corruptive "cultures" spred across the human race as people "tune-in" to the morphic resonance of such bad influences in society, and so the rest follows, and they remember. Similarly, how a leaf cell knew and remembered to develop into a leaf rather than the root of the same-DNA plant. All these can be explained by formative causation, by simply being tuned in to the morphogenetic field of the same kind, it can remember to develop as the same part where its DNA came from. Likewise, any such old or newly acquired behavior gets into the whole "memory pool" to be remembered by subsequent generations to come, that they become (even up to the genetic level) such as what the morphic resonance reminds them to become.

This excerpt shows not only are behaviors, thoughts and forms affected by morphic resonance of "external influences" but it can affect even the gene level as well, which explains how scientists may have discovered some genetic patterns related to alcoholism, or even heterosexuality or homosexuality. MORPHOGENETIC FIELDS (from the Greek morphes, FORM, and genesis, COMING-INTO-BEING)
In the early 1980s, a young plant physiologist from England, Rupert Sheldrake entered this debate with a theory that shook the scientific world. His "hypothesis of formative causation" appeared in his book, "A New Science of Life".
...
According to Sheldrake's hypothesis, systems are organized the way they are now because similar systems were organized that way in the past. Specifically, the charateristic forms and behavior of all chemical, physical and biological systems that exist at the present time are guided and shaped by organizing fields which, like an invisible hand, act across space and through time. ..
Perhaps the most supportive data for the existence of morphogenetic fields comes from a series of experiments begun by the psychologist William McDougall at Harvard University in 1920. His goal was to find out if animals could inherit abilities acquired by their parents. McDougall put white rats, one at a time, in a tank of water. The only means of escape was by swimming to one of two gangways and climbing up. One gangway was lit brightly and the other was dark. If the rats left by the illuminated escape path they receive an electric shock, but not if they took the darkened gangway. McDougall recorded how many trials were required for the rats to learn to escape consistently by the unlighted path.
The first generation of rats required an average of over 160 shocks each before avoiding the illuminated gangway. However the second generation bred from these experimented parents, did much better. And their offspring did better still. McDougall bred thirty generations of rats, at which point the rats were making only 20 errors each.
McDougall concluded that these results pointed to the inheritance of acquired characteristics, but the conclusion was extremely controversial. It raised the specter of Lamarchism. McDougall's experiments were scrutinized by the leading biologists and no one could find fault with his experimental design. It was decided that somehow he must have unknowingly bred the most intelligent rats from each generation, in spite of the fact that he chose the parents at random.
McDougall took up the challenge. He began a new experiment in which he selected only the most stupid rats from each generation to be parents for the next. One would have expected, according to the tenets of orthodox genetic theory, that subsequent generations would have performed progressively poorer. Instead, they did better. After twenty-two generations the rats were learning ten times faster than the first generation of stupid ancestors. .... ---
In one study, Harvard's John Cairns and his coworkers found that bacteria genetically incapable of metabolizing the sugar lactose can become lactose-consumers when placed in an environment in which lactose is their only food source. In order to consume the sugar and thus avoid starving, the bacteria has to mutate at a rate far greater than that known to occur randomly. Thus, the bacteria rapidly acquired a new characteristic and passed it on to the future generations, violating current prohibitions against such.
In a similar experiment, researcher Barry Hall at the university of Connecticut subjected bacteria to an even more difficult task. In order to metabolize the novel sugar that was their sole nutrient, they had to perform 2 mutations, one which was an excision of existing genetic instructions. The odds against the two mutations occuring randomly during the same time period are more than one in a million. As in Cairn's experiment, the bacteria then passed on the newly acquired ability to subsequent organisms.
The significance of these experiments is currently the subject of intense debate. Are the results limited to bacteria? What percentage of all mutations are accounted for by these newly discovered mechanisms? Are most genetic variations still attributed to randomness with "experience" playing only a minor role? Regardless of how the debate is settled, these experiments suggest, Cairns states, that all variation is not random, but THAT THE GENETIC PACKET OF AN INDIVIDUAL CELL CAN PROFIT BY EXPERIENCE. Cairns summarizes the current situation:
"The early triumph of molecular biology strongly supported the reductionists...Curiously, when we come to consider that mechanism might be the basis for the forms of mutation...we find that molecular biology has, in the interior, deserted the reductionist. Now almost anything seems possible."Cause and effect principle has always been there and it's a proven stance and it's basically all there is to morphogenesis (come-into-being) science.
How Changes in Moral Behaviors and Tendencies of Humankind Evolve and Come About
Given the preceding article on morphogenesis, morphogenetic field and morphic resonance, one can derive many concrete and conclusive ideas as to how human tendencies and behaviors get promulgated within each species from one generation to another. And at some point, these effects may even go down to the gene level. Then scientists discover some pattern which they may think to be related to such behavior or tendency even though they were originally not there in the beginning but somehow, some "external factors" influenced such change, ie. In order to metabolize the novel sugar that was the sole nutrient of a certain bacteria, they had to perform 2 mutations, one which was an excision of existing genetic instructions; the bacteria then passed on the newly acquired ability to subsequent organisms.
Back to the list
We then can say that God does not do this but it is the world and worldly ways which do this to humankind, ie. abortion, abusiveness, anxieties or depressiveness, homosexual tendencies, racism, feminism, modernism and such corrupt tendencies which are passed on from one generation to to another like acquired "second nature". The problem here is these morphogenetic fields that are resonating such influences to humans are causing corruption and immorality and misleads away from God's way and will upon His people.
Is there hope of preventing the world from running and taking over God's creation? Of course there is, if we only keep with God's order of matters instead of the world's disorder of it, (ie. homosexual culture, homosexual tendencies and behavior, cancer linked to abortion of fetus, etc.)
Indeed we can do prevention of morphic resonance of such influences in human behaviors, tendencies, even genes, by putting everything back on track of God's order. We can accomplish much by preventing alternative lifestyles, new age lifestyles, gay lifestyles, secular, worldly societal bad influences, stopping abortion, etc., from spreading. Remember how the colony of macaque monkeys acquired the trick of adding flavor to sweet potatoes from another colony even though they had no direct contact to each other? And how subsequent generations new and remember the trick? That's how such alternative lifestyles, gay lifestyles, modern and secular lifestyles get passed on from one place to another, via the morphic resonance of such influences as some people "tunes in" and receives them, they get influenced and affected. It is not an easy task but there must be a stop to these before God's creation is rendered to oblivion, destruction and such type of disorders. In effect, there is a need to stop such worldly "r-evolution" affecting humankind.
The preceding articles have shown how environment and societal cultures can change, not just people's personality but they can actually affect human physiology as well. Not only mind but full physical body, to the gene level as well can be influenced by such cultural and environmental impositions. Thus, we can know that it is not God-made but rather man-made/environment-influenced.
Consider these examples that should be cause for alarm and concern:
- Scientists playing with human genes being inserted in animal(pig) genes so this animal may provide for and supply organ parts for humans. Such intended "alteration" can produce invisible morphogenetic fields which will be remembered by later pig organs to continue to produce such type. Moreover, such animal organ parts, being put in the human body, can also be "remembered" by the human body that sooner or later it may get used to it and pass on such influence to subsequent generations.
- Just as how knowledge is passed on and how new generations keep getting smarter than the previous one, that's how people acquire sinful tendencies and behaviors, ie. being abusive, depressed, same-gender attractions, etc., because these are imposed upon people by the modern societal influences of anything goes; do whatever pleases you; you have the rights to do abortion, etc. These too are "remembered" and are accumulated in what the preceding article called as "Memory Pool" and are morphogenetic fields that get passed on and those who tune in to their morphic resonance receives such influences. Thus, affecting their knowledge, tendencies, behaviors even the gene of subsequent generations.
- Take the example of the strongest, most powerful antibiotic losing its effect all of sudden to the virus that it used to defeat. Consider how people who have become too dependent to antibiotic so much that their bodies no longer generate their own antibodies.
All these occurrences can be explained by Sheldrake's formative causation on morphogenetic fields being resonated and remembered by one species to the next and the corresponding "side-effects" that come with them.
These should be a major cause for moral concern amongst conscientious and righteous people. We, as children of God, do not deserve to fall more and more to such worldly impositions upon our being.
Also, in a post a year or so ago, regarding evolution, I mentioned about "World Revolution" imposing itself upon others. What seems to be "evolution" is actually just a product of aspects of environment being "altered" by others and thus change is evident although not necessary, especially if it causes faltering from God's order and way.
Well we are not this world's experimentation and for its "mutational"-influence upon our being. We must go back to God and be as God's creation; back to God's order and not this world's disorder. The best way to accomplish this is go back to our Holy Mother Church and conform our conscience to her moral teachings and these are the morphogenetic fields which we much continue to uphold and spred to everyone so God's will and way prevail amongst us, in our whole being - thoughts, words, actions, tendencies, behaviors, even to our physical gene level.
"St. Michael, defend us in the battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do thou O Prince of the Most Holy Host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all evil spirits, those who wander through the world seeking ruin of souls. Amen."

Heterodoxy ALERT!
It has been allerted to me and it has always been a concern that there are some folks around on this internet email listserver list and newsgroup, who are "at it" again on promoting heterodoxy on the list - the usual folks who are advocates of contraception, women ordination, homosexuality, sterilization, promiscuity, anything goes - alternative lifestyles and such BAD "morphogenetic fields" resonances again on the internet lists. Those "organizations" and advocacies which the very wise Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz has wisely banned from his dioceses (ie. Call to Action, Planned Parenthoood, etc.)
Back to the list
I've known you folks and you know who you are. I've known you from the (psuedo)Vatican 2 ARCC list, the cath-l list, the spirit-l list, soc.religion.christian newsgroup, etc.. Some of you, for being frustrated in not being able to promote such dissension from the Church very well on the Free Catholic List (thanks to the good counter actions and arguments by the orthodox folks here), even set up your own list (heh). I know you, and your many "alternative lifestyles", "morphic resonances" on the internet in promoting such dissension from the Roman Catholic Church teaching and bad influencing Christians with your feministic, modernist, dissentful approaches.
I pray to God, since I have just had many things in my hands right now, that all your advocacies and "morphic resonances" will never settle in on God's chosen ones' mind. They may settle in to the weak and easily bad influenced. But God will indeed protect those He has chosen in the Church (the innocent, the young, the righteous) from such CORRUPTIVE thinking and approaches in life inside the Mystical Body of Christ.
Remember, the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ and His Body will always be free from "cancer and infection" because it is God's Body afterall. These "infections" include dissensions, heterodoxies and such promotion of the above corruptive "morphogenetic fields".
Thus, we know your advocacies are not from God because they only promote "infection" and corruption in His Body rather than obedience to God, His Father, Our Father.
Remember also, that if we love the Church, we are obeying Christ, Who loves her very much. You, on the other hand, do not really love the Church, His Mystical Body and it shows in how you'd rather promote dissent and corruption, even distortion of Church teachings and bashings of the pope.
So we know such advocacies of yours are not from God. For Christ has taught and we should follow Him - if you love Me, obey My commandments. And He also taught to know and discern well that which is from God vs. that which is from satan: "Either declare a tree good and its fruits good or declare a tree bad and its fruits bad"..."you will know a tree by its fruits". And indeed, the fruits we see from your black propagandas and agendas are corruption, division, dissension, the dismantling of Christ's Mystical Body, disobediences of God's teachings, modernism, and secularism. You mislead others!
Thus, God's people are warned against your advocacies. I continue to pray for those on the internet "watching you" so that they may be enlightened by the Holy Spirit to detect well such bad influences and so they may instead obey the Church and the pope, rather than the resonation of your corrupt "morphogenetic fields" which destroys the goodness in God's creation.
God and St. Michael will let me know and give the way for me to come back to face you. But for now, I give God's chosen people the "warning" (signs of the times) about you and your advocacies and I pray for the many good orthodox folks here to do a very good job in defending the Church and God's teachings thru the Church and the pope.
